Profile of the Members of the Executive Committee
Pursuant to the Bye-Law 31and the sub-clauses included therein of the “Bye-Laws, Rules and Regulations” of the G C College Alumni Association, regarding election of members of the Executive Committee, the elections were held on April 27, 2014 along with the general Body Meeting. Shri Dwipendra Krishna Dutta Choudhury
Shri Dutta Choudhury of the 1950 batch (B. Com) is the inspiration for establishing the Alumni Association, and is also founding member of the G C College Alumni Association. He completed his M. Com from the Calcutta University, and joined the Indian Statistical Services, and retired as a Director from the Ministry of Planning in Government of India. Shri Dutta Choudhury is a former Vice-President of the Srihatta Sammilani, and founder Executive Trusty of the Bipin Pal Trust. He is currently an Executive Member of the All India Federation of Srihatta Sammilanis, and a Trusty of the Bipin Pal Trust.

Dr. Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee
Dr. Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee of the 1970 batch (BA English) is known to many of the members as our dear teacher; andis also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.. He obtained MA and PhD from the Gauhati University. He taught English Literature at GC College, and later Comparative Literature at the Jadavpur University.
Formerly Director of the Indian National Book Trust; Editor of the Sahitya Academy; Director of the KK Birla Foundation, Dr. Bhattacharjee is recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, notable among those are the international award for translation of Sunil Gangopadhyay’s work: The Dreadful Beauty; and national award for translation of Mahashweta Devi’s work: The Armenian Champak Tree. He was also a special advisor to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India for the 150th centenary celebration of Rabindranath Tagore.

Dr. Rathin Chandra Das
Dr. Das of 1969 batch (BSc Chemistry) is one of our most illustrious alumni. He obtained MSc and PhD from Gauhati University and DSc from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He had devoted lifelong work on cancer cells and cancer drugs, notably with Pfizer, USA and Bayers, Germany. Currently, Dr. Das is the Vice-President of a large industrial research company at California, USA.

Dr. Ashok Dutta
Dr. Dutta of 1964 batch (Pre-University) obtained his MBBS from Dibrugarh medical College, and MD from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.
He was a Professor of paediatrics at the Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi and was later Medical Superintendent of the same medical college and hospital. Dr. Das is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shri Soumya Kanti Purkayastha
Shri Soumya Kanti Purkayastha of the 1982 batch (Pre-University) is currently the Chief Executive, Educomp Global FZE, based in Dubai and leads businesses focused on empowering the youth through education and training as well as Public Private Partnership initiatives with the governments in Middle East Region and the African Continent.
He completed his Bachelors in Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering, and MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmadabad. In a career of 25 years now, he has held key responsible positions in various leading organizations. He is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shri Subhajit Debroy
Shri Debroy of the 1985 batch (Higher Secondary) obtained his BE (Civil Engineering) from the VRCE (National Institute of Technology), Nagpur. Currently, he is a Senior Manager and Product Manager at the Steel Authority of India Limited. He is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Dr. Tapan Ghose
Dr. Ghose of the 1983 batch (Pre-University) received his MBBS from the Silchar Medical College (he was the Gold Medalist and recipient of the Anjan Chakravorty Memorial Prize); DNB and Fellow of Intervention Cardiology from the India National Board for Cardiology; and Fellow of the Americal College of Cardiology.
Formerly Principal Consultant for the Fortis Hospitals Group, he is now the Director, Centre for Cardiology of the Paras Hospitals Group, New Delhi. He is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shri. S. D. Roy
Shri Roy of the 1968 batch (BA History) is currently retired from service, enjoying the results of a very fruitful career. Shri obtained an MA in public Administration. He then joined the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and served there for 25 years. Notable of his contribution during the stint in the Ministry of Home Affairs is the implementation of several counter-insurgency operations in the country, especially in the Northeast India.
Later, he joined the Gas Authority of India Limited, and retired as the Chief Manager overseeing the expansion of the LNG network in the country. He was instrumental in implementation of the largest petrochemical project in the country at Oraiya. He is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Dr. Dibanath Chakroborty
Dr. Chakroborty of the 1982 batch (Pre-University) is a renowned neurosurgeon and practices both in Bangalore and in Silchar. He received his MBBS from the Silchar Medical college, MS from Dibrugarh Medical College, and MCH from FCPIMST, Thiruvananthapuram. He is currently a neurosurgeon at Fortis Hospitals Group, Bangalore. Prior to the Fortis Hospitals, he has spent several years as a faculty and practicing neurosurgeon at the Manipal Group.

Dr. Suchandra Ghosh
Dr. Ghosh of the 1982 batch (Pre-University) is currently Associate Professor of Ancient Indian History & Culture, at the University of Calcutta. She is the Secretary of Indian Association for Asian and Pacific Studies; Executive Committee Member of the Indian History Congress and Pashchim Vanga Itihas Sansad; and Member of the Historical and Archaeological Committee and Verification Committee of the the Asiatic Society, and the Indian Museum.
A prolific author with more than 50 papers in international and national journals and recognition in the Indian History Congress, she is visiting professor in College de France, Paris; Institute of Indology, Berlin; and the Ruhr University, Bochum. Among her awards are the Charles Wallace Visiting Fellowship in England and the Nehru Trust UK Award. She is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shri Aparajit Choudhury
Shri Choudhury of the 1982 batch (Pre-University) completed his BE (Civil Engineering) from the Regional Engineering College (NIT) Silchar, Diploma in Management and Computer Sciences from IGNOU, and an MBA from IPMA (USA).
He has been with the Power Sector since the last 25 years and is currently with NEEPCO in Shillong, Meghalaya. He is trained in underground structures with Electrowatt, Switzerland. He is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shri Vikram Laskar
Shri Laskar of the 1982 batch (Pre-University) completed his BE (Computer Science) from Regional Engineering College (NIT) Silchar followed by M.Tech. from the Jadavpur University.
He started his career with C Dot, New Delhi and is currently with Alcatel Lucent in telecom software development. Shri Laskar is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shrimati Krishna Mishra Bhattacharjee
Shrimati Mishra Bhattacharjee obtained her BA (English) from GC College, and MA (English Literature) from the Gauhati University.
A renowned poet and write of short stories, she is currently with the Delhi Hutters Literary Group; and is a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shrimati Moshumi Charavorty
Shrimati Charavorty of the 1990 batch (BA Economics) obtained her MA (Economics) from the North Eastern Hills University, Shillong.
She teaches in the DAV Public School, New Delhi. She is also a founding member of the G C College Alumni Association.

Shri Kaustav Das
Shri Kaustav Das of the 1999 batch (BSc Chemistry) obtained his MBA from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra.
He is currently the Area Sales Manager at India Metronic Ltd.; and was earlier with the Johnson & Johnson Ltd., and the Siemens India Ltd.

Dr. Biman Nath
Dr. Biman Nath 1982 batch (Pre-University) is one of our most illustrious alumnus. A graduate of the Delhi University, he received MS and PhD in astrophysics from the University of Maryland, USA.
Currently, he is with the Raman Research Institute, Bangalore. He has a passion for writing fiction, and is the author of two novels and a few popular science books. He is among the most known popular science writers in Bengali; and is the first Bengali writer of interwoven poetry and science.

Srimati Tara Pal Choudhury
Srimati Tara Pal Choudhury of the 1962 batch (BA Bengali) was the Athletics Secretary of the College during 1959-60. She served at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi during 1987-2002.
An actor and director, she has directed and produced several theatre and drama productions.
She is currently the Vice President of the Srihatta Sammilani, New Delhi (where she earlier was the Secretary for 10 years); and Executive Member of the All India Federation of Srihatta Sammilanis

Shri Tapas Paul
Shri Tapas Paul of the 1986 batch (Higher Secondary) obtained BArch from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal; and M.Tech from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
He is a Senior Environment Specialist in the World Bank for about 15 years now and working across in the South Asia, Latin America and Caribbean, Central Asia regions. Earlier, he was General Manager at Lea International Ltd., and an Urban Planner at RITES Ltd.
Author of several books and reports on issues ranging from environment, economic development, water resources to conservation of cultural heritage; he had been earlier a member of Government of India Committees for monitoring primary education programs (1995), and integrated child development services program (1996).

Prof. Baharul Islam
Prof. Baharul Islam of the 1986 batch (Higher Secondary) MA from the Aligarh Muslim University, PhD from the Tezpur University, Post-Doctorate from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok ; LLM from Sthrathelude, UK; and an MBA from the Harvard University, USA.
Currently, Professor and Chair for the Centre for Public Policy and Governance at the Indian institute of Management, Kashipur; he had earlier taught at National Institute of Technology, Silchar. He was a Reader at the Indian National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and ICT Specialist at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
A prolific author of 4 books on issues ranging from water management and women’s right. He wrote a chapter of the Encyclopaedia of Digital Governance. He is a member of the International Bar Association, UK; and a member of the Government of India Task Force on Assessment of the primary education program (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan).

Shri Ratnajyoti Dutta
Shri Ratnajyoti Dutta of the 1993 batch (BA Economics) received MSc from Gauhati University. He is currently the India Correspondent at the Reuters. Earleir, he worked at the Dow Jones, the Wall Street Journal, the TV18 Ltd, and the Press Trust of India.
As the nominee of the International Labour organization (ILO), he had made significant contribution to the drafting of the Indian National Employment Policy. He has also contributed to the Indian National Biotechnology Policy as a member of the Media Review Committee.

Shri Joydeep Shukla
Shri Joydeep Shukla of the 1990 batch (BA Economics) received his LLB from the Assam University, Silchar; MBA from the National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM); PGD in Financial Management from Slovenia; and a PGD in Financial Management from Atlanta University, USA. He joined the Assam Civil Services, and is currently the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Assam at New Delhi.
The Executive Committee may, at its discretion, co-opt 4 other members in the Executive Committee. Further, all Presidents and General Secretaries of Regional Chapters proposed to be established will also be members of the Executive members of the Executive Committee. Brief profiles of all of them will be circulated/updated as and when such new Executive Members join the Executive Committee.
